“Golden Girls” Tuesday: Singing Dorothy steals spotlight from Blanche at popular watering hole

http://i.ytimg.com/vi/FV6_ewa_414/0.jpgAt a party last night, me and couple of guys were talking about theater and shows we’ve seen over the years. I mentioned seeing Bea Arthur’s one-woman show at the El Portal (I think it was in 2004?) and one of the guy’s asked: “Could she sing?”

Can she sing? Yes! She won a Tony for the musical Mame and was also in such musicals as Threepenny Opera and Fiddler on the Roof and was nominated for another Tony for her one-woman show.

It all made me think of this Golden Girls episode from season 7 when Blanche took a depressed Dorothy to her favorite little bar to cheer her roomie up. In this scene, Dorothy ends up belting out a tune. She ends up being so popular with the guys that they end up ignoring the usual center of attention Blanche!

It gave TV fans who only knew Miss Arthur’s work on The Golden Girls and Maude to see what a great talent she really was.

  2. Perhaps you should try and chill, Bill, and leave ME and my friends alone! xxoo
