“Glee” star Matthew Morrison chats with AfterElton and Parade about tonight’s season premiere, his many gay fans and more

http://www.zap2it.com/media/photo/2009-03/45432897.jpgWe already know Glee star Matthew Morrison has incredible talent and looks. But after just reading a few interviews with him just now, I can tell that he is incredibly cool – and gay friendly! He stars as the director of the high school glee club on the new Fox series which has its season premiere tonight!

AfterElton.com editor Michael Jensen chatted with the Tony Award-nominated actor who seems poised for television   stardom. Here are a few of the questions and answers I especially liked:

AE. …You think you have more gay male fans than female fans? You really think that’s the case?
Matthew Morrison:
I think from my Broadway days and now doing this show, some people are calling this the gayest show on TV — it’s gayer than Ellen Degeneres. Yeah, I definitely have a ton of gay fans, which I’m happy with.

AE: Did you have any experiences in your theater life or even in high school with friends coming out?
MM:
Oh absolutely. Actually, my college roommate, I was the first person he came out to. A lot of friends have come out to me.

AE: Every year we do a list called the AfterElton.com Hot 100, where the readers on our site vote on the 100 hottest guys. Last year, I believe Cheyenne Jackson came in #4. I have no doubt Glee is going to put you on the list next year. Here’s your chance to make your pitch to the readers. Why should they vote for you for the Hot 100 next year?
MM:
Okay. I’m a triple threat — in fact, people call me Triple Threat on the show — I’m an actor/singer/dancer, nominated for a Tony award, love, love, love the gay community, and I will offer sexual favors for anyone who votes for me. [laughs].

Matthew also chatted with Parade. Some highlights:

Still pinching himself: “If I could have created a TV show for myself, this would have been it. So this is a dream job for me. It’s great to see the crossover of Broadway on television. Actually, when I auditioned, I didn’t try to belt out a big show-stopper. I came in and sang ‘Over the Rainbow’ accompanying myself on the ukulele. I guess it worked.”

As for his upcoming debut album.: “It’s sort of in the style of Michael Buble, or maybe you could call it Dean Martin-esque. It’s just me and a big orchestra doing some standards and original songs. No rapping, unfortunately. Hopefully, I’m going to be working with David Foster to write some stuff.”

Forget those Broadway audiences: “We went to Comic-Con and 3,000 people showed up. It was like standing room only, just crazy loud people. They were like yelling at the screen. Jessalyn, who plays my wife, showed up and they were like shouting, ‘Dump her!’ It was really fun.”
