“Glee” has been renewed for fourth season!
It’s just been announced that Glee, which has managed to get more gay each year, has been renewed for a fourth season by FOX.
“Glee has continued its success as a genre-defying, global cultural phenomenon,” Fox entertainment president Kevin Reilly said in a statement about the renewal.
In season one, we only had Kurt Hummel, the gay kid at McKinley High trying to survive the slushies hurled his way with dignity and humor.
He has since been joined by Blaine Anderson who is now his boyfriend. In addition, cheerleader Santana has gone from enjoying occasional lady kisses with Brittany to a self-aware lesbian in love with Brittany, one of Kurt’s bully’s, Dave Karofsky, has struggled to come out himself, and then there is scheming Sebastian who is determined to come between Kurt and Blaine.
And those are just the gay characters! There’s out actress Jane Lynch as scary Sue Sylvester and hunky men like Matthew Morrison as Mr. Schuester.
We’ve seen plenty of network shows dabble in gay storylines then retreat most times but Glee has taken us on a journey with its characters and because of that, is changing broadcast television.
If not for Glee, there would be no Smash which has just as many gay characters if not more.
Hooray for more Glee!
