GLAAD Media Award nominations unveiled and “The Normal Heart” is already a certain winner

GLAAD announced the nominees for its 26th annual media awards earlier and one thing we know for sure is that The Normal Heart is going to win the award for Outstanding TV Movie or Miniseries.

It’s the only nominee!

But it won the Emmy in this category so even with competition, it probably would have triumphed.

Meanwhile, Oscar best picture nominee The Imitation Game will compete against Love is Strange, Pride, The Skeleton Twins and Tammy for Outstanding Film (wide release) at this year’s GLAAD Media Awards.

Tammy starred Melissa McCarthy and Susan Sarandon and featured a terrific turn by Kathy Bates as a lesbian aunt.

The awards recognize and honor media for fair, accurate and inclusive representations of the LGBT community and the issues that affect their lives.

GLAAD announced 104 nominees in 21 English-language categories, and 40 Spanish-language nominees in 10 categories.

Reflecting an unprecedented level of queer content on the small screen, there are now 10 nominees in the television drama and comedy categories.

Up for Outstanding Drama Series: Degrassi, The Fosters, Game of Thrones, Grey’s Anatomy, How to Get Away with Murder, Last Tango in Halifax, Masters of Sex, Orphan Black, Pretty Little Liars, and Shameless.

The Outstanding Comedy Series Nominees are: Brooklyn Nine-Nine, Faking It, Glee, Looking, Modern Family, Orange Is the New Black, Please Like Me, Sirens, Transparent and Vicious.

Trans actress Laverne Cox is involved in three nominations: as a cast member of Orange is the New Black; for Laverne Cox Presents: The T Word nominated for Outstanding Documentary; and for Laverne Cox discusses The T Word on The View up for Outstanding Talk Show Episode.

In the English-language categories, cable networks earned 35 nominations, broadcast networks garnered 15 nominations. Streaming services received three nominations: Amazon Instant Video received its first nomination for Transparent, AOL Originals received its first nomination for True Trans with Laura Jane Grace, while Netflix picked up its second nomination for Orange is the New Black.

The first ceremony of the 26th Annual GLAAD Media Awards will be held at the Beverly Hilton in Los Angeles on March 21 and the Waldorf Astoria in New York City on May 9.
