The Gay and Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation has announced the nominees for its annual GLAAD Media Awards and the list includes plenty of Greg In Hollywood faves.

The awards, of course, celebrate outstanding representations of the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) community and our allies on TV, in film, and in the news.

I’ll highlight a few categories starting with the Outstanding Film (Limited Release) category which includes Any Day Now which I loved and Keep the Lights On which I did not. Lights is winning all kinds of prizes and is nominated for several Independent Spirit Awards. I’d try and watch it again to see if I somehow missed its brilliance but, frankly, I’d rather stick needles in my eyeballs. Also nominated in this category are Mosquita y Mari, Musical Chairs and North Sea Texas.

For Outstanding Film (Wide Release), the winner will simply have to be the superb The Perks of Being a Wallfower which I loved, loved, loved! It will be competing against Cloud Atlas which I actively avoided seeing, ParaNorman which is wonderful, and two other films I have not yet seen: Your Sister’s Sister and The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel.

Outstanding Comedy Series where the nominees are Glee, Modern Family, The New Normal, Happy Endings and Go On. I can’t pick between the first three! I say three-way tie!

While those are shows that have one or more gay characters each week, some shows do not but do an episode featuring LGBT characters and themes. They get nominated for the Outstanding Individual Episode. This year those shows are Raising Hope, The Mentalist, Franklin & Bash, Touch and Drop Dead Diva.

Outstanding Documentary is a strong category but really has to go to the powerful and superb How to Survive a Plague which is also nominated for an Oscar. But also so very good are fellow nominees Vito and Chely Wright: Wish Me Away. I have not yet seen the remaining two nominees: Hit So Hard and Codebreaker.

In the daytime drama category, Days of Our Lives squares off with Bold and the Beautiful. Glad B&B has introduced some lesbian characters but c’mon, Days is on fire with its Will, Sonny, Gabi, Nick and really all of Salem storyline. Great, great stuff!

The Outstanding Talk Show Episode category is solid: At Home with Neil Patrick Harris, His Fiancé David Burtka, & Their Twins” Oprah’s Next Chapter; Autoshop Restores Bullied Gay Student’s Car for Free” The Ellen DeGeneres Show; Bishop Gene Robinson” The Daily Show with Jon Stewart; “Marriage Equality” The Suze Orman Show and “The Husband Who is Now a Woman and the Daughter Who is Now a Son” The Jeff Probst Show.

The Outstanding Musical Artist is stellar with Adam Lambert, Frank Ocean, Rufus Wainwright, Scissor Sisters and Gossip all nominated.
