Gay soccer pro Robbie Rogers is writing a book
It’s been less than a year since soccer pro Robbie Rogers came out publicly in a heartfelt letter on his website.
Since then, we’ve seen him retire then un-retire and along the way, prove himself to be an intelligent and thoughtful person.
Now, he’s going to do more writing.
Robbie announced via Facebook today that he is going to co-write a book about being the first openly gay male US soccer pro: “Soccer and writing are my two biggest passions. I am so lucky to be given the opportunity to write my memoir with Penguin Books. So many people helped me with my struggles while I was coming out, I hope this book will do the same for people who feel a bit like me.”
The memoir will be called Come Out to Play.
The Penguin Books press release states: Beyond providing compelling insights into the world of professional athletes, Come Out To Play will be the first of its kind- a deeply personal account of what it’s like to be openly gay in professional locker rooms, 60,000-seat stadiums full of raucous crowds, and a sports universe that’s only now becoming hospitable to gay people.
