Gay singer-songwriter Eric Himan writes song about anti-gay Arizona bill: “Not Going Anywhere Tonight”

Eric Himan is an openly gay singer-songwriter who I was not familiar with until today.

I find myself now a fan.

Eric was on his way to perform in Arizona when he found out the legislature had passed a bill that allows businesses to discriminate against anyone – including LGBT people – if they say it is because of religious reasons.

He quickly wrote a song called Not Going Anywhere Tonight, made a video and posted it on YouTube.

I think it’s terrific!

He writes on the YouTube page: “I couldn’t take it. I had to write this song and put it out there. I urge everyone to take it seriously. Bills like this could easily find its way across our country. Let’s stop it now and continue our fight for our freedom to live as ordinary citizens with equal rights under the law.”

“In just a few short hours I wrote Not Going Anywhere Tonight, a soulful musical message to the Arizona Legislature. Within three days I recorded it with acclaimed DJ Alex Harrington and shot this video to get his message out while on tour. You can also purchase and download the song here:

4 Remarks

  1. Hi Greg – I’m a long-time follower of your blog via Towleroad, and appreciate your work. Just a quick note that you have a typo where you call him Gary twice, instead of Eric.
    Cheers –
    Tony

  2. Tony, thanks so much for pointing that – and in such a nice way. Some people take all their rage from their day out on me for things like that!

  3. There’s also a gay comedic/satirical artist on Youtube named Kevin Yee who released a video last night titled “The Arizona Song”, which was a more tongue-in-cheek but very witty and intelligent treatment of this same theme.

  4. Fortunately, businesses in Arizona are speaking out against this bill. I hate bigotry disguised in religion.
