Gay rights discussed on “The Joy Behar Show” with Bryan Batt and Dan Savage

I don’t know about you, but I’m loving The Joy Behar Show. She is more than capable of hosting an hour-long show and it’s nice to see her involved in these great interviews instead of those big group things on Tbe View where everyone is talking over each other or taking turns answering questions.

On Monday night’s show, Joy devoted a segment to gay equality had one of her funniest lines ever. Guest Dan Savage told her a horrific story of a lesbian couple, one of whom was dying, was kept apart by a Florida hospital during those final moments even though they were domestic partners and had power of attorney. The surviving woman said she was told by a nurse: “Florida is an anti-gay state.”

Joy’s remaerk: Florida. You can’t trust a state that’s shaped like a penis.”

Dan had a good reponse to Joy’s question about Barney Frank who poo-pooed last Sunday’s National Equality March even before it took place: “I went to the March on Washington in 1987 … it changed me for the rest of my life and it was extremely empowering. There are a lot of ripples that come from a march like that.”

Bryan Batt was the other guest and after a clip from Mad Men was shown of his character Salvatore being fired after a male client hits on him, he said: “There are a lot of places where it [still] can happen and does happen, unfortunately.”

2 Remarks

  1. I’m disappointed that our favorite lesbian Joan Velez has been bumped to the 4PM PST slot. Joy is great but her show doesn’t need to air twice during prime time.

  2. I too love her show. Boy, she says anything and everything on there. It seems so lively compared to Larry King. I think it’s because she’s so animated and just says what she thinks. She’s not afraid to talk about any issue. Very refreshing.
