Gay opera singer kicked out by parents on his 18th birthday wows on “America’s Got Talent”
I think there are few people worse than parents who kick their kid out of the house for being gay.
The parents of Jonathan Allen did that on his 18th birthday.
That was two-and-a-half years ago and they haven’t spoken to him since.
Last night on America’s Got Talent, the world got to see what those parents have been missing: an amazing young man with an amazing voice!
“I’m not a bad person for being who I am and I really want them to see that,” he told the judges before he launched into a brilliant performance of Time to Say Goodbye.
He’s just 20 and has his life in front of him. I’m so in awe of gay kids like this who have such resilience and spirit and refuse to give up on themselves even when the people who are supposed to give you unconditional love do.
After the performance, judge Howie Mandel said: ‘Your own family disowned you, but with your talent, this show has become your family, and we’d like to say “welcome home”.
‘We love you. We accept you. And we’re so proud that you came here.’
Added judge Howard Stern: ‘I don’t know if your parents are watching tonight but I want to say what a wonderful son you have.’

Paul says:
Youre more of an idiot than a prick. If he chose to be gay them you chose to be straight which means you simply repress your urge to have sex with men. I hope you get help for that stupid religion you represent. Jesus…
Anna says:
If Greg reviews comments several times a day…then I guess you’re just as ignorant as rick the prick. Baptist preachers? What a joke. Get rid of that assholes comment.
Greg Hernandez says:
That comment slipped by me and I did delete it, I don’t want anyone advocating conversion therapy on this site.
Gunther says:
Awesome human being and a very talented son… his ignorant parents need to acknowledge this young man. How shallow and bigoted they are to be so cruel. I’m so proud of Jonathan!!! I hope he wins everything.

I think it was pre-recorded. If you look at his tongue and throat there is no movement as he sings with tremello.
vicki fraser says:
I think he is a great singer and probably a great kid. I think his parents need to have their head examined especially this day and age where gays are mostly accepted. Doesn’t matter what he is he still is your son weather you like it or not, so Wake Up And Smell The Coffee!!!! So Johnathan keep up the good work and all the best!!
