Gay icon Kathy Griffin tops Metro Source magazine’s list of “People We Love”

[kathy_griffin_metrosource.jpg]EVERYONE LOVES KATHY: Especially Matro Source Magazine. The New York and Los Abngeles publication has chosen the funny redhead to grace its 20th anniversary cover.

She tops their “People We Love” list which also includes Dustin Lance Black, Graham Norton, Ellen DeGeneres, Rufus Wainwright, Lily Tomlin, Neil Patrick Harris, Whoopi Goldberg, Meryl Streep, Mary Louise Parker, Tina Fey, Elton John, Tim Gunn, Tina Fey, Adam Lambert, Patrick Swayze and the fabulous Lee Pace.

Here is a portion of Kathy’s Q&A with the magazine:

Q. Coming from a Catholic background, what bothers you more, the Catholic position on birth control or gays?
KATHY GRIFFIN: Oh man that is a horse race. I would have to say I reject the Catholic positions on just about everything you can think of. I am a fallen Catholic and I fell so far, I woke up in Beijing, much to my mother’s chagrin.

Q What has your mother’s reaction been to the book?
KG: My mother told me — this is so classic Maggie — she’s going to go through the book, and she’s going to take a scissor and she’s going to cut out every single part that’s about our family, and I thought: that’s genius. And I said, “Mother, you go right ahead. I’ll supply the scissors.”

KG: I would send them such a muffin basket. That would be gold for the book. So I am in heavy negotiations with my own family, trying to convince them to go on every morning talk show possible and just say that, you know, I’ve had 17 abortions and that I’m a drug addict and I don’t protect my children. And since I don’t have any, I think we’ll start with [Michael Jackson’s son] Blanket. I want them to say that I’m Blanket’s biological mother. I want to see my brothers and sister crying on the Today show,  saying that they are revealing for the first time that I am Blanket’s biological mother. That would be my dream.

Q. In Official Book Club Selection, you share pretty nakedly about your brother’s struggles with addiction and sexual misconduct.
KG: I just thought — for God’s sake — I waited ‘til I was 48 years old to tell the story and I kinda couldn’t write the book without writing about that and writing about my divorce and writing about my plastic surgery, and — as Paula Deen said — “all my secrets.” I mean, I do whatever Paula Deen tells me, basically. So do many people — to great success — and perhaps great weight gain. [laughs].

http://poponthepop.com/images/gallery/kathy-griffin-and-levi-johnston-dating.jpgQ, Who’s the better red carpet date, the Woz or Levi Johnston?
KG. Levi is the ultimate red carpet date because he did nothing on that red carpet but say how I was the most beautiful girl there, and my favorite quote was when he said I was, “the star of the night.” And I don’t want you to think for a moment that I told him to say that because Levi, of course, speaks for himself at all times. And I coached him very well. But I think that thing with Levi was a score, don’t you?

Q. Was it your idea? Did you just call up his people?
KG: It was 100 percent my idea, and — by the way — now I think it’s the proper answer to how I wield my power. I am able to pick up the phone and call Wasilla and get Levi Johnston on the phone. That’s pretty powerful.
