Gay and Lesbian Entertainment Critics Association announce nominees for The Dorian Awards

The lesbian love story Carol starring Cate Blanchett and Rooney Mara was nominated for seven Dorian Awards today by the Gay and Lesbian Entertainment Critics Association (GALECA) of which I am a proud member.

The film, shut out at this week’s Golden Globes, was nominated for Film of the Year, LGBTQ Film of the Year, Director of the Year (Todd Haynes), Performance of the Year – Actress (Blanchett and Mara), Screenplay of the Year (Phyllis Nagy) and for Visually Striking Film of the Year.

The acclaimed films Tangerine and The Danish Girl each received three nominations.

The independent, low-budget drama Tangerine which will vie for LGBTQ Film of the Year, Unsung Film of the Year and Director of the Year (Sean Baker).

The film’s stars, transgender actresses Kitana Kiki Rodriguez and Mya Taylor, have also been nominated in the Rising Star category.

The Danish Girl will compete for LGBTQ Film of the Year, Performance of the Year – Actor (Eddie Redmayne) and Visually Striking Film of the Year.

GALECA is comprised of over 130 reputable critics and entertainment journalists nationwide. Its mission to honor content ‘from mainstream to gaystream’ in movies and television.
