Gavin Newsom and wife parents of baby girl!

San Francisco Mayor Gavin Newsom has just communicated via Twitter that he and his wife Jennifer Siebel Newsom are the parents of a baby girl.

Montana Tessa Newsom was born at 12:39 p.m. and is 20.5 inches long and 7 pounds, 12 ounces.

Congratulations to the parents!

The mayor is running for California governor and earlier this week got the endorsement of former President Bill Clinton. Yesterday he got a high-profile LGBT endorsement when former State Senator Sheila Kuehl announced her support.

It was Newsom who got the ball rolling on same-sex marriage when he directed the San Francisco city-county clerk to issue licenses to same-sex couples. This led to the lawsuit that made marriage legal in California before it was overturned by Proposition 8.
