Freddie Smith – Sonny on “Days of Our Lives” – is injured in a car accident in Ohio

This is terrible news.

Freddie Smith, who plays Sonny Kiriakis on Days of Our Lives, has been injured in a car accident that has left his female passenger in critical condition.

Smith was driving and Alyssa Tabit a passenger when he lost control of his car early Tuesday on Route 84 in Kingsville Township, Ohio.

Speed and alcohol are suspected to be factors in the crash, the Ohio Highway Patrol tells StarBeacon.com.

Smith was being treated at Conneaut Medical Center while Tabit was airlifted to St. Elizabeth’s Hospital in Youngstown. She is listed in critical condition.

Greg in Hollywood has for years followed the Sonny storyline on Days of Our Lives including this year when he married longtime love Will Horton (played by Guy Wilson).

‘I just really love this storyline from the bottom of my heart,’ Freddie told me last year. ‘It’s nice to go to work every day and have such a positive impact.’

Freddie was nominated for an Emmy for his portrayal in 2013.

UPDATE: Guy Wilson has provided an update on Twitter than he received from Molly Burnett who plays Melanie on the show: ‘Just got off the phone with Freddie. He and Alyssa are OKAY. They were in a serious car accident last night, but were able to receive medical help IMMEDIATELY.

‘Freddie was released from the hospital, and Alyssa will be in surgery for a few more hours. She was cognitive pre-surgery, an all of her tests were perfect. Both Freddie and Alyssa’s families are heading there now, and they are in the best hands.’

Guy Wilson sent out a tweet this afternoon: ‘Please, everyone, send prayers and love.’

5 Remarks

  1. Well I hope they both have a speedy recovery. If both speed and alcohol were involved then hopefully this is a lesson well learned even if it is a hard one. As no one is perfect.

  2. I’m sorry Freddie and his friend were in an accident. I hope they make a full recovery. I guess we’ll mysteriously see Sonny wearing a cast for no apparent reason in five months.

  3. I hope they get better, but if DUI was the cause, they are grown ups and there is no lack of information out there. If alcoholism is a problem among people in general it seems to be an epidemic among actors (that and other substances). Having a different perspective I can understand why when I see how normalized and naturalized are certain customs related to alcohol (they become invisibilized); being drunk is seen as funny, drinking is considered synonym with being happy and no party is complete without alcohol, many think that the normal sequence of drinking is finally getting drunk, the more you are able to drink the more macho you are (though women drink as much), there is even a special name for people who don’t drink (that tells a lot), well the list goes on and on. But the worse symptom is that pointing this out makes you a public enemy because truths that hurt are better kept hidden.

  4. I really hope for a speedy recovery for both of them… I love Sonny. His acting ability makes some others on the show look like amateurs…. I know he is str8 in real life, but he has an awesome gay following, me included… Love Sonny

  5. I am zero tolerance for drinking and driving. It’s a choice we all have the chance to make. You can drink but especially when you are an actor you have means to get a ride from someone. I love him and his acting and I’m not here to judge or bash. I just really hope that he did learn his lesson. thankfully they didn’t hit anyone else and kill anyone. It could have been worse. If he is an alcoholic I hope he gets the help that he needs.
