Freddie Smith charged in drunk driving crash

I know there have been some people who have been eagerly awaiting an update on the Freddie Smith situation.

The Days of Our Lives actor was involved in a car crash last month in Ohio.

I haven’t had any updates until now because there have not been any since stories at the time of the crash.

I have an update for you now:

Freddie has been charged with drunk driving.

The 2013 Emmy nominee was involved in a serious car crash last month in Ohio when he lost control of his car early on Route 84 in Kingsville Township.

Smith suffered only minor injuries but his girlfriend, Alyssa Tabit, was critically injured and trapped in the overturned car. She and had to be airlifted to a local hospital.

She is now recovering from her injuries.

According to the Star Beacon, Smith has been charged with operating a vehicle while intoxicated – a misdemeanor – and felony vehicular assault.

Smith’s blood alcohol test result was .093, when the legal limit in Ohio is .08.

The actor is back in Los Angeles and an arraignment date has not been set. It’s not known how Smith’s legal problems might impact his storyline. The soap is taped several months in advance.

He has not posted on Twitter since Oct. 1.

8 Remarks

  1. Poor Freddie, I love him so much, stay strong Fred.

  2. First of all, I wish his girlfriend a speedy recovery.

Second, I wish Freddie a swift but fair resolution to his legal problem.

Finally, I hope he doesn’t lose his job at DOOL.

  3. All best wishes to Freddie and Alyssa and the sad misadventure which was an accident everyone regrets, most of all the participants.Sounds like the alcohol level was relatively low so Freddie should indicate remorse and take care of his friend ; no need to lose a job.

  4. Freddie knowingly got behind the wheel while he was drunk. Not an accident, deliberately drove drunk. It is incredibly fortunate no one was killed, the car didn’t just crash, it flipped over, and his friend had to be air lifted for emergency treatment. He deserves to be punished for this and hopefully learn from this so it never happens again. If that means he leaves the show, while sad, this real life event needs to be taken seriously and he needs to learn a lesson, next time he or any other innocent passenger or fellow traveler on the road may not be so lucky.

  5. Legally speaking (at least around here) we don’t call driving under the influence “an accident”. And that is besides the fact that, obviously, he didn’t want to have his girlfriend with life threatening injuries (though she is not dead, so people just say “OK, let’s forget the whole thingy). I understand there is an alcoholic culture in place that facilitates empathy and tolerance on such grave issues, a culture that can not fathom being happy, a friend’s party or reunion, whatever, without alcohol, it is so intrinsically embedded into society that people rather blame “fate” and whatever to actions that begin with a first conscious decision and mutate to something that kills people by the thousands everyday around the world. It’s a taboo to even suggest sobriety (not only about alcohol) as a different way to face life.

  6. Kathy people have driven drunk for longer than most of us have been alive but most of the time they don’t realize their blood alcohol level is over the legal limit. A BAL of .093 is barely over the legal limit and he probably didn’t feel like he was impaired. I’m sure that he’s felt pretty bad about this knowing that he could of lost his girlfriend and that at times is the worst punishment. He doesn’t seem like he’d be the person who would make the same mistake twice. His punishment could possibly be very mild if he has a clean driving record with no other infractions other than a speeding ticket. It will all depend on the judge but since he lives in L.A. any punishment he receives could possibly be served in L.A. instead of Ohio.

  7. Kay, just because people have always driven drunk, doesn’t mean you excuse the act. Barely over the legal limit, but clearly enough over the limit to be speeding, crossing the middle line and then FLIPPING the car end over end. Doesn’t sound like a “little” drunk to me. I have seen quite a few pictures on the Internet of Freddie with a drink, including a few at a fan event where he was hugging his drink like a baby. Seems to me like there might be more going on here. Hopefully he does learn his lesson, but getting off too easy might lead someone to think they can get away with it again. For the severity of the accident the charges appear to be light, hopefully not so light that he will not learn a lesson.

    ICHRISTOPHER says:

First of all it doesn’t matter if he had one drink you don’t drive after drinking. It’s much cheaper and safer for all in the long run to call a cab.
I wish him well and hope he does return to “DAYS” no one can replace him.
