Former tennis champ Margaret Court speaks out against marriage equality in Australia
It took a lesbian, Billie Jean King, to undo the damage to the women’s equality movement in 1973 after Margaret Court was easily beaten by Bobby Riggs in a battle of the sexes match.
King went on to beat Riggs and the rest is history.
Now Court, winner of a record grand slam single titles, wants to set back the marriage equality movement as well!
She is senior pastor in Perth’s Victory Life Church and is speaking out against efforts in Australia to legalize same-sex marriage, according to The West Australian newspaper.
Said Court: “No amount of legislation or political point-scoring can ever take out of the human heart the knowledge that in the beginning God created them male and female and provided each with a unique sexual function to bring forth new life. To dismantle this sole definition of marriage and try to legitimise what God calls abominable sexual practices that include sodomy, reveals our ignorance as to the ills that come when society is forced to accept law that violates their very own God-given nature of what is right and what is wrong.”
It’s interesting that you have Court being such a homophobe while her former rivals King and Martina Navratilova (pictured above with Court and fellow Wimbledon champ Steffi Graf) have lived with such courage and been such leaders in the fight for gender and LGBT equality.

We may not like it, but the woman is entitled to her opinion. At the time, I didn’t think that the matter of Court/Riggs/King was that major a thing, and still don’t. It was a publicity event for Riggs as much as anything.

Not at all shocked, she has been negative on so many issues over the years, that this is just one of many, and, I still have no respect for her or her record that was won when few ventured to play.
