For Greg Louganis, the Wheaties box means more now: ‘I feel like I am embraced as a whole person’

Greg Louganis is such class act.

He talked to People.com about his long-overdue Wheaties box and says: “It took over 30 years, but it finally happened – better late than never! It is so iconic and the honor actually means more today than it would have back then. I feel like I am embraced as a whole person, and not just for my athletics.”

That is such a good point.

While Greg is a certified Olympic legend with four gold and one silver medal won over three Olympics, since his last competition in 1988 he’s lived with such courage and grace.

He’s come out as gay and as HIV-positive and shared his story with the world so honestly and eloquently.

Greg’s worked to increase HIV/AIDS awareness and mentored younger divers and is remarkably not bitter over how he was treated by corporate America at the height of his Olympic glory.

“It truly was a sign of the times, it was what it was,” he says. “I competed in my sport that I loved and I was successful. That was good enough for me. My focus wasn’t what I could get out of it, or the fame. That’s not how I was brought up!”
