Flashback to the day Susan Lucci finally won that Emmy!
The Daytime Emmys are being held much later this year (August).
It’s pretty certain that Susan Lucci will be there despite not being nominated this year. Daytime’s biggest star, who has played Erica Kane on All My Children for nearly 40 years. She was nominated for an Emmy for outstanding lead actress an astounding NINETEEN TIMES without winning. She used the famous losing streak to her advantage once it got into the double digits parodying it on Saturday Night Live and doing an Equal commercial about it.
And finally, in 1999, she won! Today is the 10-year anniversary of that momentous win. It was a glorious moments and well-deserved and her speech – in the clip above – was emotional and personal.
She hasn’t won since and is rarely nominated now but she continues to shine on the soap and her TV daughter, Bianca, is one of daytime’s few lesbian characters. It makes us love Erica – and Susan – all the more. I don’t think there is a classier star around than Susan Lucci.
