Flashback Friday: The night Elizabeth Taylor received the AFI Life Achievement Award

The year was 1993 and at the age of 61, Elizabeth Taylor was still about as stunning as she ever was. She was the recipient of the American Film Institute’s Lifetime Achievement Award which I think at the time had only previously gone to one other woman: Bette Davis. What’s interesting though is that Miss Taylor had so moved on from Hollywood at that point as she was fully immersed in the battle against AIDS. When I think of her, I think of her humanitarian work – how she spent the last 25 years of her life – even more than her iconic movie career. She really had one helluva third act.
