Flashback Friday: Chronicles of a Noisy Neighbor: Mrs. Kravitz’ Funniest Moments on “Bewitched”

On the 1964-72 sitcom Bewitched, Gladys Kravitz was Samantha and Darrin Stephens’ neighbor on Morning Glory Circle in Westport, Connecticut. She and her husband Abner lived across the street. Mrs. Kravitz’s nosiness, her frustration at never being able to convince her husband or other neighbors of the odd behavior across the street, and the difficulties she causes the Stephenses are all recurring themes on Bewitched.

Alice Pearce originated the role and as you can see in these scenes, was hilarious. She also won an Emmy. Sadly, she died from cancer in 1966 during the show’s second season. Sandra Gould had the role for the rest of the show’s run. Gould got the role of Mrs. Kravitz when Alice Ghostley turned down the role. A few years later, Ghostley became a semi-regular on the series playing Esmeralda, a well-meaning but inept witch.

Enjoy!

One Remark

    Richard Vestal says:

I enjoyed the show a lot, sad it went off the air. I like that they sometimes gave serious issues to a show here and there. Of all the guest characters my favorite was Uncle Arthur.
