Fired “One Life to Live” actress Patricia Mauceri had role in classic gay indie flick “I Think I Do…”
When I posted an earlier item on Patricia Mauceri alleging she was fired from the ABC soap because of her religious beliefs, I was not aware that she had a role in the 1997 gay romantic comedy I Think I Do which starred Alexis Arquette and Tuc Watkins, among others.
Maurceri, who objected to her soap character being supportive when she mistakenly thinks her son is gay, played the role of Ms. Rivera in the film.
Since I was paying more attention to Tuc, Alexsis and co. when I watched the film, I can’t remember whether or not the character was in line with the actress’s religious beliefs which apparently prevent her from uttering anything positive about gays.
Anyway, I don’t really want to dwell on her narrow-minded views or what seems to be a very bad career decision. I just think it’s ironic that she is in this movie which is such a big gay fave. Here are some scenes from the movie via WeLoveSoaps:

Greg thanks for covering this as I find Patricia to be quite a hypocrite. Her religious beliefs appeared to be different in 1997. I blogged about this on Soap Central and for some reason I couldn’t locate the post at a later point.
Susan says:
I think Patricia is coming from the character’s point of view. Personally she may not agree with gay relationships, but I dont think she is speaking about her personal life, I think she is coming from what the character would believe and support. I dont think Carlotta would open her arms and welcome christian as gay, She would love him but tell him she does not agree with that life, weather it was christian or anyone else…. //////////////////////Susan H-K from Michigan

Perhaps Susan was not ‘out’ in terms of her religious beliefs earlier in her career or maybe, like many people, she has come to her beliefs later in life. Regardless, isn’t the point that in any work situation you should not be forced to revoke your beliefs to do that job? Let’s be tolerant, people. Just because someone believes differently than you, no matter how tasteless you perceive their beliefs, you should treat them with respect. Why can’t we all just get along? And who are we to judge someone based on internet trash-talk?

Thank God Ms. Maurceri had the guts to choose what’s of God and not cave in the pressures of show business. For those of you who are calling her a hypocrite, God heard that. Ms. Maurceri obviously changed her way of thinking. She will be abundantly blessed for her decision. As for those of you who are blasting her for not wanting to play the role of a mother who accepts her son’s confused gender issue, I promise you, God has some not-so-pleasant surprises for you as well as for One Life To Live.
