“Fashion Police” taken off the air until September – Kathy Griffin talks about her exit on “The View”
Fashion Police has been put on a long hiatus.
The fashion snarkfest that the late, great Joan Rivers put on the map has struggled to find its groove since her death last September.
The show, which relaunched in January with Kathy Griffin succeeding Rivers as the comic center, was dealt a blow last week when Griffin abruptly quit after just seven episodes.
Her departure came just days after panelist Kelly Osbourne, a holdover from the Rivers version, had quit.
E! Networks said in a statement that the show ‘is going on hiatus and will return in September. We look forward to taking this opportunity to refresh the show before the next awards season.’
E! personality Giuliana Rancic and style guru Brad Goreski will return as will Executive Producer Melissa Rivers.
An incident on the show’s post-Oscars involving Rancic seemed to set the stage for the show’s implosion.
Rancic got into hot water last month over a joke written for her about actress Zendaya’s dreadlocks. She said they made the Disney star look as if she smelled ‘like patchouli oil’ or ‘weed.’
Rancic apologized on the air and it was later revealed that editing took the joke out of context and made her look even worse.
Osbourne had been outraged by the Zendaya incident while Griffin explained her exit this way: ‘I discovered that my style does not fit with the creative direction of the show. Now it’s time to move on.’
