Fantasia Barrino talks about performing at LA Pride: “This is like history and it will go down in the books”

Okay, so maybe she didn’t get the cover of Rolling Stone but season three American Idol winner Fantasia Barrino has still done pretty well for herself since her run on the show. Fantasia not only has released albums, but she’s also starred on Broadway in The Color Purple.

She performs this Saturday at LA Pride and talked to Frontiers magazine about it. Here is a taste:

“It is the biggest gay Pride ever and I could not miss it. I can’t miss it. I have done a lot of gay Prides – they love and support me so, so much. To me, this is an honor. … I’m also performing with Deborah Cox who is a diva and a soulful singer – I love performing with the soulful singers. I couldn’t miss this. This is like history and it will go down in the books. All those big women – Chaka Khan, Patti Labelle, Cher, Madonna … I feel like I’m at their level now.”

Fantasia is a big supporter of LGBT equality: “Let me tell you something. My world consists of being free, and whast I mean by that is being myself and living life. It’s your life – live it the way you want to live it because you only have one life to live, and I’m not going to let noboy stand in the way of that. That’s how I feel for everybody. Live your life.”
