ESPN baseball analyst Curt Schilling loses his job over anti-trans Facebook post

High-profile baseball analyst Curt Schilling was fired by ESPN today for anti-transgender content he posted on Facebook.

The Monday Night Baseball analyst and three-time World Series winner posted a meme earlier this week mocking transgender women.

It was later deleted but the damage had been done.

The post showed an overweight man wearing a wig and women’s clothing with parts of the T-shirt cut out to expose his breasts. It says: ‘LET HIM IN! to the restroom with your daughter or else you’re a narrow-minded, judgmental, unloving racist bigot who needs to die.’

The caption with the post read: ‘A man is a man no matter what they call themselves. I don’t care what they are, who they sleep with, men’s room was designed for the penis, women’s not so much. Now you need laws telling us differently? Pathetic.’

With the post, Schilling appeared to be weighing in on the controversy over North Carolina’s HB2 which requires transgender people to use the bathroom consistent with the gender they were assigned at birth rather than the gender they identify as.

ESPN in a statement described itself as an ‘inclusive company.’

‘Curt Schilling has been advised that his conduct was unacceptable and his employment with ESPN has been terminated,’ the sports network stated.

On his personal blog Wednesday before the firing, Schilling wrote as part of a lengthy post taking on his critics: ‘This latest brew ha ha is beyond hilarious. I didn’t post that ugly looking picture. I made a comment about the basic functionality of mens and womens restrooms, period.’

2 Remarks

  1. Glad they finally fired him. He’s made so many absurd comments.

  2. Sounds like he has needed to go for a while. Good for ESPN!
