Emmys: Jim Parsons gets another nomination and Jesse Tyler Ferguson gets nod for “Modern Family”

The Emmy nominations came out this morning and they aren’t nearly as gay as I had hoped.

No Chris Colfer or Jane Lynch nods for Glee nor one for Neil Patrick Harris for How I Met Your Mother. And Matt Bomer also didn’t get a nomination for his guest spot on Glee and the entire cast of Smash was snubbed except for guest star Uma Thurman.

But let’s focus on the positive.

Newly out Jim Parsons, already a two-time Emmy winner for his role on The Big Bang Theory, is nominated once again for lead actor in a comedy series.

He told TVLine.com this morning that he was even more excited about co-star Mayim Bialik being nominated than his own nod. “I was jumping up and down — I kid you not,” he told TVLine from New York, where he’s currently appearing on Broadway in Harvey. “I love her so much… I went to call her immediately but I didn’t have her number — isn’t that weird that I don’t have her number yet? I don’t think she wants me to have her number, which is OK. I still love her.”

Out actor Jesse Tyler Ferguson, who plays Mitchell on ABC’s Modern Family, was nominated in the supporting actor in a comedy category along with Eric Stonestreet who plays his husband on the show. Stonestreet is a past winner. Could this be Ferguson’s year?

“I’m thrilled to be included amongst one of Modern Family‘s 14 Emmy nominations!” Ferguson told TV/Line. “I am celebrating with 10 gorgeous, tall, leggy showgirls. Not because that’s how I roll but because I’m in rehearsal for The Producers at The Hollywood Bowl. Also, because I like to make Eric Stonestreet jealous.”

Lesbian actress Sarah Paulson (pictured, right) was nominated for outstanding supporting actress in a miniseries for her performance as Nicole Wallace in HBO’s Game Change while bisexual actress Margaret Cho was nominated in the best guest actress in a comedy category for 30 Rock.

The Tony Awards telecast received a nomination in the outstanding special class program category. It’s not clear if host Neil Patrick Harris would be among those receiving an Emmy should the show win. Another nomination of gay interest is two-time Emmy winner Kathy Griffin being in the outstanding variety special category for her Bravo stand-up special Tired Hooker.

Also: Out actor-writer-producer Dan Bucatinsky was nominated as one of the producers of NBC’s Who Do You Think You Are which is up for outstanding reality program and writer and LGBT activist Dan Savage was nominated in the outstanding children’s program category for MTV’s It Gets Better special.
