Emmy Recap: A crazy night with two Will Hortons, one Sonny Kiriakis and, inexplicably, the wrong film clip
Okay, so I’m home from the Daytime Emmys and reflecting a bit on my encounters with Will and Sonny of Days of Our Lives.
First, I must say this: How in the heck did the wedding clip of Will and Sonny being married – with Guy Wilson in the role of Will – end up being played when Chandler Massey’s name was announced as a nominee?
Bizarre! Almost like a Days plot like when Marlena played the scandalous video at Eric and Kristen’s wedding.
But the classy Massey kept it from being scandalous by how he handled it.
Chandler, looking relaxed and happy as he took the long walk to the stage to accept his third Emmy in three years, made light of it by saying “Did you see my reel? That was great!”

Chandler’s appearance on stage was all I saw of him. He did not walk the red carpet nor did he go to the backstage press room later as the other five acting winners did.
So I didn’t get to see him at all during this Emmys. I’ll never forget after Chandler’s first win in 2012, he and his publicist Jeff Ballard called me from the after-party and I got an interview that way. I had been hosting my mom’s 75th birthday party and unable to attend.
But I did speak to the current Will Horton, Guy Wilson, on the red carpet and will share with you later this week some of what he said is ahead for Sonny and Will.
Guy tweeted congrats to Chandler after the show: “Could not be more proud of @ChandlerMassey for his THIRD CONSECUTIVE EMMY WIN!”
Also chatted with Freddie Smith who was nominated last year but not this year despite some very strong work as Sonny Kiriakis.
I asked Freddie if he had yet seen his former screen partner Chandler so far at the event.
He had not.
I then asked him if he had seen him since Chandler left the show.
He had not.
“We’ve both been so busy I haven’t really touched base,” Freddie said.
After Chandler’s former castmate Eric Martsolf came backstage after his supporting actor Emmy win, he was told about the film clip switcheroo that featured new Will instead of nominated old Will.
“That is awesome!” Martsolf said, laughing. “Did they show (Days of Our Lives producer) Ken Corday’s face when it happened? Chandler probably took it on the chin like a champ.”
Martsolf then added: “You have to embrace the revolving door in this industry. We’re jumping from shows like frogs on lily pads – you don’t know which show we’re on from day to day.”

Well we know Freddie saw Chandler at least once since Chandler left the show, as he was at one of Chandler and Casey’s kickstarter fan dinners in December, so not entirely accurate. So sad that the wrong Emmy reel was played, I would hope it was an accident, but given how management has treated Chandler, and the way they let him go, it really seems like it was deliberate. Chandler classy as always joked about it and moved on and gave a great speech. It was also sad he chose not to meet with the press, but can you really blame him, with everything that has happened.

Yes, it was a well deserved third Emmy. However, you’re lead off hook that the substitution film clip does sound like one of Days screwy Storyline that hits off the mark is also reminds us fans that sometimes reality follows from a little intrigue..

Chandler handled the situation like the classy guy he is with confidence and humor intact. I miss seeing him on the show but he is living his dream of attending college and pursuing other projects. I am happy for his accomplishments so far and congratulate him on his THIRD consecutive Emmy win.

Chandler was amazing. He deserved the win and showed much higher character than DOOL producers. Actually there is Video footage of Massey and Smith together at a “casual” fan event and massey attended a kick starter event for Smith so that is interestingly inaccurate information that they’ve not seen each other. Also Guy did nicely congratulate Chandler right after he tweeted about not getting best drama and said “so suck it” which is just not as classy. But hey, smooth it all over in your article. No need to start any honesty on the issue.
PS I’d like to have seen Corday’s face, too. First his proud smile for his “slip” and them the smirk that it failed to fluster Chandler and actually made him look better!

Wow. That was a damn hot mess. I love Chandler Massey and DAYS committed colossal error firing him when they could have reached a deal. The recast is subpar and he’s been on for months but he’s turned Will into fast forward, not must see, TV.
Chandler’s submission was clever and well done too so it’s a shame it wasn’t shown. It’s about 3 or so minutes and his acting was layered, nuanced and devoid of irritating histrionics unlike his competitors especially those kids from GH. Those GH boys were hysterical drama queens in their reels.
Good on you, Chandler!!!

I agree with Patty in that telling your colleagues to “suck it”, it’s not the best way to gain their respect.
So let me send a huge Congratulations to Chandler Massey.
First for being a superb actor on-screen. And last, but not least, for being such a classy, kind, gracious man off-screen.
After last night, it’s even more obvious why Chandler is so sorely missed, both on and off-screen.

Congrats to Chandler! Much deserved, and a great way to cap off his soap experience. Though, that was one epic eff-up on the show’s part. I couldn’t have come up with any better way to handle it than the way Chandler did. At least they got his name right in the caption I guess…
But anyway, as for Chandler and Freddie, in this particular situation, I think it was appropriate to have asked Freddie about Chandler, because he was up for an Emmy. In every other circumstance though, I wish people would stop. Journalists and fans alike. They don’t work together anymore, and they are not, nor have they ever been the same person. Will and Sonny might come as a pair, but Freddie and Chandler do not. Freddie is an admirable actor on his own, and I think he has done well in his role even since the beginning, when he wasn’t paired with Chandler. I would imagine that it’s got to be frustrating to have your success so widely considered to be dependent on another person and not your own talents. Chandler has chosen to move on now, but Freddie is still at his job. Ask him about that.

Patty I think that you took what Guy said out of context. He wasn’t telling Day’s to suck it but the other shows because Days won best supporting actor and actress in a leading roll. So please before you say Guy is being classless check what he actually said before twisting it around. He was proud of Days accomplishment because its been a long time since they won for best supporting lead actress. Aka like over 30 years. So it was a proud moment.

Kay, I’d you read Guys tweet, when he said “suck it”‘ you will see that Patty got it 100% correct. He was telling his colleagues at another daytime soap to “suck it ” because they lost out on some actor Emmys. A completely juvenile and non classy thing to do. If he wants to be an adult professional you never speak that way ever to people that you associate with. You can be proud of your own accomplishments, and take that proud moment and not degrade and say something disgusting to others to prove your point. Guy WilSon is an adult, not a thirteen year old, when will he start acting like the adult professional that he claims to be?

Guy Wilson is playing politics. If you watched the Emmy presentation when Chandler won neither him or Freddie stood to clap. He later went on Nbc website and congratulated the other two winners. About 5 minutes later he came back and congratulated Chandler. You have a guy that has just made history for your show and he is an afterthought. REALLY. If you watched
Y&R, when Billy won everyone was standing and celebrating. Even if you do not agree with the way he decided to leave your show, he is a young man. He did not leave to go to another show. He left for his own personal reasons. He was part of your family for years and represented your family at the Emmys for 2 years. Is that how you treat your family?

Its his twitter though and he shouldn’t have to censor what he says. I just think that people want something to grip about when it comes to Guy. He’s not perfect but so freaking what. I respect actors who speak their minds no matter how childish it can be at time. Those who toe the party line to me have no backbone all because their afraid of upsetting people. Its just too bad that people can’t find humor in this because I didn’t find it offensive at all. Also if he’s not allowed to make an off hand childish remark on his twitter then that’s just sad. I hardly doubt that those at General Hospital will take offense by what he said. If they do then that’s just plain down right sad in my book. Also Greg I do look forward to reading your interview with Guy.

I have to disagree with Kay in that Guy Wilson “shouldn’t have to censor what he says” in his twitter.
I think any well-known person should always be aware of the impact of his/her comments in the media.
When Guy Wilson tweets, he’s not sending a private text to a friend or relative, he’s making a public statement, therefore he should act consequently.
Also, speaking one’s mind does not inherently require to offend others.

Everything that happened, other than the actual win of Chandlers was unprofessional and rude from most of Days cast and management. They didn’t stand and clap for him like they did for Eric or Eileen, the showing of the wrong acting reel, really seems like it was deliberate. Many cast members and Days own Facebook page only congratulated Eileen and Eric. Galen, Jenn Lilley, Kate Manzi and Deidre seemed honestly happy for Chandler, and not just an after thought. That was nice to see. Chandler left his job to go to school, a commendable thing, and days mangement and some cast it seems took it as a personal attack of some sort and have acted that way. Incredibly sad and unprofessional. The one person who has always acted mature, professional and polite in all this, was Chandler. So congratulations to him!
