Emmy nominee Freddie Smith has left “Days of Our Lives” but will appear in episodes through summer

Today’s Days of Our Lives scenes are doozies and will post shortly.

But first this stunning news: Freddie Smith has left the show!

Freddie, nominated for a second daytime Emmy last week, finished filming scenes as Sonny Kiriakis a few weeks ago.

But because the show films so many months in advance, he will appear in episodes for the next five months, according to Michael Fairman Soaps.

It is reportedly Freddie’s choice to leave.

It’s not yet known if the role will be recast as Sonny’s on-screen husband Will Horton was last year when Guy Wilson took over for Chandler Massey.

  1. Talented Freddie did the role of Sonny with honesty and charisma. Best of luck to him. Now its about time for DOOL producers to hire a truly gay actor to fill the role like Scott Evans.

    Noooooo!!!

How’re they gonna wrap this up?

Paul is amazing too – what’s going to happen?

Kind of cool I get DOOL news from Greg in Hollywood;)

I do not like this. I do not like this at all! Who could possible play Donny’s role as good as freddie did? Darn!

  4. Inside sources say that Freddie wrapped filming two weeks ago. And Guy Wilson just tweeted yesterday that Dena Higley, the new writer, is “crafing some amazing stuff” for Days. So I hope that keeps Will and Paul in a center story despite me not liking Will at all currently

I wish Fredde well but his contract was up and unfortunately young actors usually don’t stick around like the veterans. I hope if there is a recast the guy has the same amazing chemistry that Freddie shared with the original Will (Chandler Massey) and Christopher Sean.

  5. I don’t get why he would leave the show. I know it must be a hard year for him after the accident but usually is work what keeps people psychologically going. Is it coincidence that the two main actors of the gay story left? I hope there is not some working conditions (whatever they are) that make them quit in such not very foreseeable circumstances. Greg must know some gossips but gossips are just that.

  6. I’m done with this show. Freddie was the last link to The Great Chandler Massey but now that Wilson is gone I will be gone also. Deuces Days of Our Lives, You messed up big time letting those two go.

It seems an Emmy nomination is a call for my favorite actors to take a powder.

  8. Hope The Show Keeps The Door Open For Freddie To Return…….He Really Is Believable In His Role As Sonny.
Also……..The Show Should Consider Bringing Back Actor, Spencer Neville As A Regular. He’d Be Fire-Works With Paul’s Character…….

  9. This is truly sad about Freddie. Eight years ago today, I lost my partner of 28 years. Today I am more in tune to watching these young gay relationship blossom on TV rather than get heavily involved with one myself. We owe a great debt to shows like Days and actors like Freddie Smith for exposing to the general audience about gay life and just how normal we really are.
We never know what transpires in the personal lives of our actors.
But I can empathize with him knowing that he had a rough year with almost losing his and Alyssa’s lives. I can imagine that his medical and legal costs were substantial and wish that we, as a gay community, could help them, but we don’t know the details. I hope that he gets to greener pastures and better opportunities to his liking. He is a great actor and I will definitely keep up with him in future appearances. Best of luck to him and Days at the Emmys!

  10. As sorry to see Freddie Smith leave the role of Sonny as I was to see Chandler Massey depart as Will — the two actors’ on-screen chemistry was off the charts, among the very best in the history of Soapdom. Truly believe the role of Sonny will be recast given that Days has just put Wally Kurth on contract to once again play Justin Kiriakis — Jackson’s father — on a full time basis and it is only logical that his oldest son would remain a presence in Salem.

  11. I’m going to miss Freddie terribly. Sonny had a decency about him that was so charming.

  12. If someone close to Freddie knows that his decision was based on financial needs (moving to greener pastures), we should start a campaign to keep him as a vital part of the storyline at DAYS.
We should send out an S.O.S. (Save Our Sonny) to every gay blog and organization to raise funds to eliminate his financial concerns so that he can continue to portray his wonderful character at a drama that has promoted gay rights and acceptance in our society. We owe it to ourselves to find out why he is leaving.
