Elton John to host ‘Saturday Night Live” on April 2!

Why do I get the feeling there’s going to be a Billy Joel sketch in here somewhere?

It was announced at Elton John’s annual Oscar night bash that the singer and new father will be guest hosting NBC’s Saturday Night Live on April 2.

Elton has not appeared on SNL since 1982 when he was the musical guest and performed the songs Empty Garden and Ball and Chain.

So much has happened since then! He married and divorced a woman, he got sober, he met David Furnish, he won a Tony and and an Oscar, he became a daddy and he’s raised millions and millions of dollars for AIDS research through his foundation.

The musical guest on SNL will be Elton’s buddy Leon Russell with whom he did an album last year. So looks like we can count on some Elton music in addition to seeing him in some comedy sketches!

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Elton was ecstatic to be holding his Oscar night party on a weekend when Gnomeo & Juliet, the animated Disney film for which he wrote all the music, finished in first place at the box office in its third week of release.

“I never thought I’d be coming to our Oscar party having a No. 1 movie, but it’s fantastic.”
