Elisabeth Hasselbeck slams Joe the plumber

When I wrote an earlier post today about Elisabeth Hasselbeck saying poor Carrie Prejean is a victim of the “liberal media,” it was before I’d seen this clip from The View during which she is actually talking sense for once and sounding like a human being instead of a programmed Republican robot.

But then of course, how can anyone possibly defend the lower life form that is Samuel Wurzelbacher – aka Joe the plumber. He told a Christian magazine that it’s okay to refer to gay people as “queers” and while he has gay friends, he won’t let them near his children.

“Newt Gingrich is a representative of the Republican Party, Joe the plumber is not,” the former Survivor contestant said as she tried to be heard among her co-hosts as they all talked at the same time.

The Sherri Shepherd, a very funny woman but not always an intellectual giant, made an excellent point when she reminded Hasselbeck that Joe the plumber actutally did represent the Republican party when its vice presidential nominee –Sarah Palin – used him on the campaign stump.

“That’s embarrassing,” Elisabeth admitted.

Shepherd was kind enough not to throw in that Hasselbeck also appeared with Palin on the campaign trail. What a trio: Hasselbeck, Palin and the plumber. Oh, and Newt Gingrich, the respectable representative of the party.

“I was even a person who thought, ‘Power to Joe plumber at that point,'” Hasselbeck said of his presidential campaign emergence. “Well, Joe the plumber is not invited anywhere near me.”

Not that Elisabeth has very high standards anyway. She’d probably allow Dick Cheney into her house.
