Elaine Strich has died – she was 89
I was hoping she’d live forever because she was still so interesting and still so fun.
But the great Elaine Stritch has died at the age of 89.
This Broadway legend was a showbiz survivor who has won Tony and Emmys and played scores of terrific roles – but none of her characters have ever been as interesting and unforgettable as the woman herself.
She was best known for her signature song Ladies Who Lunch from Company. The first of the three clips is from her smash show Elaine Stritch at Liberty where she tells a few anecdotes before launching into the classic number.
The second clip is a documentary about Company and a riveting episode where Miss Stritch simply could not deliver while trying to record the soundtrack for the show during a late night session. But when she finally does a few days later, it is dynamite.
And finally, the third clip is Miss Stritch performing I’m Still Here because, well, she always will be!

I will miss Elaine Stritch. There is no one else quite like her. May she rest in peace.

I think it would have been fun to know her. She was always pleasant and funny during her interviews. Those glasses are so iconic.
