Education Secretary Arne Duncan says, for the first time publicly, that same-sex couples should be able to get married
It’s getting tougher for President Barack Obama to stick to his still “evolving” on gay marriage stance when members of his own administration are no longer hiding their feelings on the issue.
No doubt Obama wants to remain on the fence until after the November election – the latest polls have him and Mitt Romney virtually in a dead heat – but he is going to have a tough time with pressure mounting.
A day after Vice President Joe Biden told NBC’s Meet the Press that he is ‘absolutely comfortable’ with gay people getting married, Education Secretary Arne Duncan did the same when asked about the topic during an appearance on MSNBC’s Morning Joe on Monday.
Duncan’s appearance began with this question: ‘Do you believe that same sex men and women should be able to get legally married in the United States?’
Duncan responded: ‘Yes, I do.’
When he was asked if that was the first time he had publicly expressed his view on the issue, Duncan replied that yes, it was. He also added that it was the first time he had every been asked publicly for his position. Prior to Biden and Duncan, Housing and Urban Development Secretary Shaun Donovan had publicly expressed support for gay marriage back in November.

Seems all of a sudden there’s excellent momentum, now I am watching and listening for more from our leader.

This quote from Howard Kurtz is found on the net which contains a certain amount of truth, “There is absolutely no question that Biden’s response was cleared by the White House. Vice presidents are not allowed to freelance on talk shows, especially on such a sensitive issue. So Obama was sending out Biden to further mollify the gay community without having to actually take a stand himself.”
Where is all this going!! “It all seems a bit calculating…or a political move”

It is very disappointing to me that our President, who openly courted the gay vote in the last election, is still fence sitting. I know that it is hard to bash a man who eliminated “dont ask, dont tell” but I voted for a supporter an not a temperature taker.. I live in NY and am proud to have a Gov who not only supported gay marriage but led the charge.
