DVD Tuesday: “Cho Dependent” and “The Green” starring Cheyenne Jackson among new releases

http://www.newburycomics.com/stores/newburycomics/user-images/preorder_mcho_image.jpgEver since 2000’s I’m the One That I Want, it’s always a treat whenever Margaret Cho releases a new comedy film.

I’ve seen them all including this latest entry, Cho Dependent, which screened at Outfest in LA last summer. It began airing on HBO last month.

This concert film – her sixth – was shot during Margaret’s 2010 tour. Among the topics:  The Palins, her stint on Dancing With the Stars cruising in the south, smoking pot and living in a world with ‘sexting.’

This is an intimate drama about a gay teacher (Harner) at an elite private school accused of misconduct with a male student. Jackson also stars as Harner’s life partner and Illeana Douglas is superb as their best friend. Julia Ormond plays the lawyer who defends Harner and newcomer Chris Bert is the student.

http://www.signis.net/malone/img/wiki_up/malice.jpgBy the time she married Sen. John Warner in 1976, Elizabeth Taylor’s glorious feature film career was winding down.

But after divorcing Warner in 1982 and shedding the 60 pounds she had gained during their marriage, Miss Taylor resumed her acting career with a series of well-received TV films including 1985’s Malice in Wonderland.

She played Hollywood gossip columnist Louella Parsons opposite Jane Alexander who played fellow columnist and archrival Hedda Hopper.

I’m happy that Malice in Wonderland is finally out on DVD so that we rabid Taylor fans can enjoy some of her later TV work. Her other TV films included Sweet Bird of Youth, Poker Alice, There Must Be a Pony, Between Friends, These Old Broads and the miniseries North and South.

One Remark

  1. Thank you for the listing of Taylor’s rarely seen TV work. Hopefully, with your reminder, my two favorites – “There Must Be A Pony” (based on a James Kirwood novel) and “Sweet Bird Of Youth” will be released. And a bit of info for your readers who want to see “The Green.” You don’t have to order from Amazon – it is available on VOD.
