Doug Spearman to begin “Welcome, Sinners” shoot this week – you can still contribute to funding campaign!
Until this year, we knew Doug Spearman best from his role as Chance on the Noah’s Arc TV series and feature film.
That was until he brought Hot Guys With Guns to the big screen as writer, director and producer.
It was a fun murder mystery often described as Lethal Weapon if Mel Gibson and Danny Glover had been gay – and a former couple. It had lots of hot males stars including Marc Samuel, Brian McArdle, Trey McCurley and Darryl Stephens.
With that success under his belt, Doug is just about to begin shooting Welcome, Sinners, another project he has written and will direct.
‘My heart is pounding and I’m on my toes, I’m so excited!’ Doug writes in a Facebook post. ‘I wrote this story so long ago and had no idea it would transform and shift not only from me playing the lead, but the very city it’s set in, to the people who have come out of nowhere to help give birth to this dream.’
He adds: ‘Now is the time. It wants to be made now – movies, art, buildings, projects, are always bigger then the individuals who call them in to being.’
Here is a synopsis of the film: Darryl Stephens (Noah’s Arc, DTLA) plays Pete Logsdon just a guy in Philadelphia who happens to have a history of getting involved with married men.
His parents are on him to find someone available and settle down. Instead he finds a man named Jack Dickinson played by Scott Bailey (Prayers For Bobby, The Guiding Light) , who is fifteen years in to a perfect marriage.
Jack and Pete start a relationship – and it all works until Pete meets the perfect gay man – Adam Klesh starring as John Armitage.
Pete and Jack retreat in to what look like two perfect relationships that are anything but until fate brings them back together again. Meanwhile, Jack is continually trying to work out his conflicts with his therapist Tracey, played by the Al Sapienza (House of Cards, Tomorrow People).
Doug considers this to be his version of updated classic, tragic, heart-tugging romances like Making Love, Backstreet, Now, Voyageur, and an Affair to Remember.
All of it set to a soundtrack by the multi-Grammy winning Mervyn Warren and Canadian singer/songwriter Gavin Bradley.
Doug’s first movie got a boost from crowdsourcing and I hope this one does too! I’m giving you the LINK to the Indiegogo page for Welcome, Sinners. Just over $6,700 of the $30,000 goal has been raised with 10 days left!
Best of luck to Doug and to his cast and crew.
