Don’t miss free reading of my friend’s play “The Death of Fabulous” on Sunday night in West Hollywood!

http://www.hotterinhollywood.com/.a/6a00e009804e1388330133f2c69722970b-250wiWhat the heck is the use of having a blog is you can’t plug your friend’s projects once in awhile? I’m really thrilled for my pal Mark Kellam who recently won the 2011 Gay & Lesbian Playwriting Competition sponsored by the Alliance of Los Angeles Playwrights.

He won for his play The Death of Fabulous.

Fabulous looks at the erosion of gay culture in today’s society and centers on several visits between two gay men – one 72 years old (Maurice), the other 22 (Romy). They often clash about what it means to be gay today. One loves Marilyn Monroe, the other Marilyn Manson. And when the conversation turns to AIDS, the sparks fly even more.

In the second act, Maurice has suffered a stroke and can no longer speak, but he desperately tries to get Romy to find his voice as a gay man and remember how hard those before him fought to win the freedoms he enjoys today. In the meantime, Romy uncovers a family secret that reveals Maurice’s final days may be filled with regret and humiliation.

A free reading of the play will be presented at 6:30 p.m. Sunday, June 12, at the Celebration Theatre, 7051 Santa Monica Blvd., West Hollywood.

My friend Mel Chadwick, an extremely talented actor is playing Maurice! I was so sad that I couldn’t see this! Mel was really honored to be involved in this! He speaks very highly of it!
