Donald Trump’s election as president ‘feels like a death’ and is messing with RuPaul’s sleep
It’s been one month since Donald Trump was elected president of the US and RuPaul is still having trouble sleeping.
‘Last night I woke up at 1:30 in the morning and I remembered what happened and I couldn’t get back to sleep,’ the Emmy winner said at this week’s Critics Choice Awards.
During the campaign between Trump and Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton, RuPaul had described the Republican president-elect as a ‘pompous braggart who doesn’t know anything about diplomacy.’
Trump is due to take office in less than five weeks and RuPaul’s Twitter feed reflects his hope that enough in the Electoral College will switch their votes to prevent his inauguration.
Says RuPaul of Trump’s election and its aftermath: ‘It’s sad. I’m still so heartbroken over it. It feels like the death of America.
‘The America that we have all fought so hard for, the narrative of love and peace and liberty and equality, it feels like it is dead.’

I’m so tired of this defeatist and “were doomed” talk within the LGBT community. You’d think it was the first time we ever had a setback. Come on people! Pick yourselves up, reorganize, re energize and fight back! And I’m not counting on the Electoral College to change it.
