Don Lemon on Kevin Hart: “He is sorry, he said, but it is not his dream to be an ally for the LGBT community”
CNN’s Don Lemon said on his show last night that comedian Kevin Hart reached out to him following his emotional plea for Hart to become an ally of the LGBTQ community.
He said Hart, under fire for past homophobic tweets and comedy routines, doesn’t want to be an LGBT ally.
Said Lemon: “He is sorry, he said, but it is not his dream to be an ally for the LGBT community. Now, you can take that however want. You can be upset by it. However you want to feel. But that is his right. Whether I like it or not, whether you like it or not, that is his right…he can do that and you can feel about it however you want.”
Hart was named Oscars host then quickly stepped down once the controversy erupted. Inexplicably, Ellen DeGeneres revived things last week when she had Hart on her show and encouraged him and the Academy to find their way back to each other.
Backlash against Ellen has been strong.

I wish he would go away for a minute. Seriously, when you talk about beating up a child because you perceive him as acting gay, that is not a joke. There is nothing funny about it, no matter how many ways you try to “explain” it to others. Children – and especially minority children – are abused, beaten, tortured, murdered because they are perceived to be gay, as if that is some horrifying thing, and there is absolutely nothing funny about it whatsoever.
At this point, he has apologized exactly twice about it that anyone can find, once after he stepped away from being a host and once this weekend. Apology accepted. Now please stop acting like the victim, like your some noble comedian being attacked for your sense of humor or for the color of your skin.
No, people are angry that you made jokes about beating up a child who “acted gay” in your opinion, and that wasn’t funny back then, it isn’t funny now, and it’s never going to be funny, no matter how many times you try to explain it.
