Diva summit: Barbra Streisand had ‘an enjoyable evening’ going to see Bette Midler as Sue Mengers

Barbra Streisand went to see Bette Midler play her former agent, Sue Mengers, in the one-woman play I’ll Eat You Last: A Chat With Sue Mengers.

The Divine Miss M had a Broadway run followed by her recent Los Angeles engagement at the Geffen Playhouse.

Since Mengers represented Streisand for so many years, we’re all eager to know what she thought of Miss Midler’s portrayal.

In a statement issued to the Los Angeles Times, Streisand said, “It was a wonderful performance. Bette made me laugh in the same way that Sue did and she touched my heart as Sue did. It isn’t the whole story of course. Some of the facts are not true, but it was a very enjoyable evening.”

Streisand paid a visit Midler following the Dec. 7 performance, and, of course, Bette tweeted about it:  Midler posted on Twitter Dec. 7, “Okay! Barbra Streisand came to the show! And she liked it!! I was so thrilled. AND relieved!!”

Bette finished the run on Sunday and tweeted: “I finished Sue Mengers before she finished me! ‘I’llEatYouLast’ closed yesterday; thanks to everyone at the Geffen who made it so memorable!”
