WTF? ABC cancels “GCB” and I am PO’d!
This kind of makes me want to throw a tantrum.
ABC has canceled the delicious GCB, show that had one of the best casts on television and should win Annie Potts an Emmy.
I can’t say how disappointed I am. I really wanted to spend more time with these characters – especially Annie’s outrageous Gigi Stopper who was this Designing Woman alum’s best character since Mary Jo Shivley.
Also wonderful: Mark Deklin and Miriam Shor as a married couple – he was gay and she was his beard – who were so good together. I hope these gifted actors land another series soon.
And of course there was that tiny force of nature Kristin Chenoweth who made the most of her character of Carlene Cockburn.
I’ll miss these characters very much and will order the DVD set as soon as it comes out on June 12.
GCB averaged less than 6 million viewers per week during its 10 episode run on Sunday nights. ABC also canceled The River and the Ashley Judd series Missing.

Rarely, Greg, do I disagree with you as much as I do in this case. Annie Potts did a great job, on that I do agree. But overall the quality of the production. I won’t miss it.

“ABC cancels GCB” Noo! I’m so upset! =(

Greg, I agree with you. “GCB” was just a fun show to watch with some hilarious performances and some mighty nice eye candy. I will miss it as well.

We thought this was a great “heir apparent” to the departing “Desperate Housewives” and quite the guilty pleasure. It was just SO over the top and delicious! My husband will claim it is his fault because every time he latches onto a show it gets canceled! ABC really has lost touch with a certain sect of their viewing audience and only chases the “dumbed down” demographic. Truly sad.

i’ve not watched the show but kept up with recaps, videos, etc on sites like AfterElton; the show was not on at a time i could watch it. it seems like a lot of people & critics really liked and lauded it.
is there a possibility that the decision was made from outside pressure? you know, the kind that is filled with bigotry, bias and fear of the truth?

I agree, it was quite entertaining and Annie Potts deserves an Emmy nomination. Sometimes the major networks don’t know how to market shows like they do on cable. Here is a case where they didn’t allow the series to find an audience.
