“Designing Women” Thursday: The ladies go to New Orleans for a convention and many things happen

Love, love, love this episode from season five – the last season of Designing Women the classic quartet of Delta Burke, Dixie Carter, Jean Smart and Annie Potts starred in together. [Both Burke (fired) and Smart (quit) left after the fifth year and the show ran for two more years.]

The ladies are in New Orleans for a convention and only Julia manages to behave. Mary Jo unwittingly sleeps with a married man while Suzanne and Charlene hit the town, have too much to drink, and meet a drag queen who Suzanne insists is really a woman pretending to be a man pretending to be a woman.

My favorite line is when a hungover Suzanne hands a hungover Charlene a drink at the presentation the next morning. Charlene: “What’s that?” Suzanne (in a perfect delivery by the brilliant Burke]: “Hair of the dog.”
