Designing Women Thursday: In the pilot episode, we get our first taste of Julia “The Terminator” Sugarbaker and it’s a doozy!
I’m very excited to be presenting this scene from the pilot episode of Designing Women. I had not been able to find it before but came across it just the other day and was happy as a clam at high tide.
Julia, Mary Jo and Charlene are out eating sushi waiting for Suzanne. An obnoxious guy named “Ray Don” decides three women alone need a man at their table. Julia (the late, great Dixie Carter) just kills me when she puts carefully her chopsticks down, looks at this clueless dude and says: “Trust me when I say to you that you have completely mis-assessed the situation at this table.”
When he persists, she really lets him have it – the first of the many Julia Sugarbaker rants that were a highlight of this classic series.
Enjoy!
