Daytime Soap Clip: Sonny is an unapologetic gay character on “Days of Our Lives”
I’m really happy with the character of Sonny on Days of Our Lives.
He’s an unapologetic young gay man secure in who he is and it is interesting to see the other characters react once they find out about his sexuality.
One of his new pals in Salem is all excited to go to a baseball game with Sonny (played so well by Freddie Smith) then finds out later that he’s gay. It doesn’t look like he’s going to take it well.
Neither did Sonny’s great uncle in an encounter that he described as “the big coming oiut to the patriarch.”
Sonny tells his cousin that the uncle tried to not be a jerk but did not totally succeed. But he’s not letting it get him down saying: “Well, I’m here and I’m queer. He’ll get used to it.”
You go boy!

Paul says:
Sonny “rides the other bus.” Yeah, teens/young adults talk like that. Great dialogue!
Michael says:
Greg…I wish you would post all of Sonny’s scenes as you used to do with the gay characters on One Life to Live.
James says:
This storyline is moving at a snail’s pace. Sonny has barely interacted at Will, the guy everyone has speculated that he’s going to be with. I thought the guy that he invited to the baseball game was gay and that they were going to be boyfriends. But maybe not. I don’t know.
