Daytime Soap Clip: David tells Dorian “I won’t go gay for pay” in a hilarious scene on “One Life to Live”

David Vickers and Dorian Lord, what a pair.

They have been crossing paths on ABC’s One Life to Live on and off for 15 years now and they are dynamite together thanks to the tremendous talents and the chemistry of Tuc Watkins and Robin Strasser.

These scenes from yesterday’s episode are vintage Dorian and David who only get better with each passing year because you can tell they know each other so well. Dorian, courting the gay and lesbian vote in the mayoral race, wants a high-profile gay person on her staff and suggests that David, her one-time husband, say he is gay.

Their exchanges are so brilliant as they discuss this that it made me wonder if there were any other actors on soaps who can pull off this kind of light comedy.

Dorian tells David: “I cannot let [her opponent] Vicky win the gay and lesbian vote – marching her homosexual staff around like its gay pride parade. … It’s too bad you don’t still have the little dog. That would sell jt.”

David protests: “Dorian, there’s no way people are going to believe that I’m gay. I’m way too rugged and outdoorsy. People find me dangerous.”

Dorian: “You get weekly pedicures.”

David: “Women like a well-groomed man.”

Dorian: “Eyebrow waxing?”

David:  “I had a coupon for that and it was a one-time thing. … No one is going to believe that I’m gay! I’m handsome, charismatic and quick to turn a phrase. … I’m starting to see your point.”

But ultimately, even as Dorian gets out her checkbook, David won’t do it: “Sorry, my sexual identity is not for sale … I won’t go gay for pay.”
