Daytime Emmys: Gay-themed webseries ‘Eastsiders’ nominated and lead actor Van Hansis gets a nod too!

Last October I attended a screening and party celebrating season two of Eastsiders at the Downtown Independent Theatre.

That night, we were shown three half-hour episodes – that’s the entire second half of the season – and I loved them as much as season one. So I was so thrilled earlier today to learn that the show – funded largely by a Kickstarter campaign – got a well-deserved Daytime Emmy nomination for Outstanding Digital Drama Series.

Not only that, but Van Hansis, already a three-time Emmy nominee for his role as Luke Snyder on As the World Turns, has been nominated for Outstanding Actor in a Digital Drama Series. The show is so well-written and well-acted and what’s key is the chemistry between the main leads Hansis and Kit Williamson who is also writer-director-producer. They play Cal and Thom who come back together after their big breakup, but decide to open their relationship up to see what exactly they want.

Hansis reacted on Instagram writing in part that he is ‘thrilled to be nominated again for the amazing @eastsiderstv created by the brilliant @kitwilliamson!’ Williamson wrote in a Facebook post: ‘I had no idea this was being announced today and I’m sitting here in the faculty lounge at NYCDA jumping up and down!’

Still no decision on a season 3 but I hope it happens – especially now!
