Days of Our Lives: Soap renewed through 2016 – and how I know Nick is not “dead”
Great news for loyal Days of Our Lives fans like me: the NBC soap will continue on the air at least through September 2016, the network announced today.
Once on the brink of cancellation, ratings have been strong for the soap which has prominently featured the gay love story of legacy characters Will Horton and Sonny Kiriakis.
The soap first premiered as a half-hour drama in 1965 and expanded to an hour 10 years later. It won the best daytime drama Emmy last year and Chandler Massey, who played Will Horton until three weeks ago, has won two consecutive Emmys for his performance – the only acting Emmys the show has received in recent years.
Okay, so that’s the official news. A bit of a SPOILER ALERT to come so stop reading if you really believe that Nick Fallon was ever dead.
The talented actor who plays Nick, Blake Berris, has given an interview in which he was asked about the transition of the role of Will from Massey to Guy Wilson.
While Berris is careful not to reveal any plotlines, the mere fact that he talks about filming scenes with Wilson as Will clearly indicates the character did not drown in the Salem river.
How can a dead man do scenes with the new Will?
“Guy Wilson is great, he’s really good. People are going to love him as Will,” Berris says. “It’s hard. Just taking over a new role, everyone is going take time getting used to it – there will be an adjustment period. He’s doing a fantastic job. He’s a really good actor, a really nice guy. As brilliant as Chandler was, this guy’s going to do a great job.”
My hunch is that Nick re-appears at Ari’s christening this week.

I really don’t like the gay storyline and turn my head when they are doing kissing scenes. I love DOOL. When Alison Sweeney leaves the show, it will take a dip in ratings for sure. I don’t like her being back with EJ. I suppose I will get used to the new Will but it will be a long time. I wish Chandler had not left. I am ready for Theresa to be found out and dealt with accordingly. I guess she and Brady will get together. She is interested in money. I want JJ to get straight but this thing with the check is going to mess him up. Off to jail he will go.
Greg Hernandez says:
Dot, why don’t you like the gay storyline? Do you think it is poorly written or poorly acted or do you object to gay people being portrayed – and kissing each other – on television?
Robert Kabwe says:
Who’d have thought I’d be getting my juicy soap scoops from Greg in Hollywood? Cool:)
As for New Will – you can see Guy is a very good actor, I think he will relax a bit into the role once his character drama flares up, but the quality of acting is definitely there and the two actors seem very comfortable with each other, which I like!
James says:
I love Blake Berris. Good husband material.
Scott says:
I too think Nick is going to show up, but I think they are going to wait until Jan 31, because the Olympics will be on for two weeks, so to keep us in suspense!
