David Bowie has died at 69 after battle with cancer

This is such shocking and sad news.

Pop music icon and actor David Bowie died today.

He was 69 and had cancer.

His official Facebook page states: “David Bowie died peacefully today surrounded by his family after a courageous 18 month battle with cancer. While many of you will share in this loss, we ask that you respect the family’s privacy during their time of grief.”

Bowie most recent album, Blackstar, was released just two days ago – on his 69th birthday.

The new album came more than 46 years after his first hit single Space Oddity, Three years later he introduced his flamboyant, androgynous alter ego Ziggy Stardust to the world and released the hit single Starman and the album The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars.

It was in 1975 when he had his first major cross-over hit, Fame, which my brother used to play over and over and over on the stereo. He also had the follow-up single Golden Years.

Other hits included Ashes to Ashes, Under Pressure (with Queen), and Let’s Dance. My absolute favorite is his exuberant duet of Dancing In the Street with Mick Jagger.

Bowie was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in January 1996.

2 Remarks

  1. This is so so sad. I grew up with his music as did my sister and right this minute it feels like part of our childhoods have ended. Bowie’s talent and vision will be missed and can never be replaced but his music will live on forever.

My deepest condolences to his family.

  2. I was in disbelieve when I read about his death last night. He was such a huge talent and one-of-a-kind. I too grew up on his music. They’ll never be another like him. RIP David Bowie.
