Critics Choice Awards: Jeffrey Tambor wins for “Transparent,” Alicia Vikander for “The Danish Girl”

Lily Tomlin did not win the Critics Choice Award tonight for best actress in a comedy film but she did find out that Trainwreck star Amy Schumer, the winner in the category, wants to go down on her.

Schumer announced this during her speech during a three-hour show that I watched closely for any LGBT winners in the movie or television categories.

There were exactly two LGBT winners: Jeffrey Tambor for his role as a transgender woman on TV’s Transparent and Alicia Vikander who played the wife of a transgender woman in The Danish Girl.

Vikander won for supporting actress in a film – the same category for which she was nominated for an Academy Award last week.

She shared with the audience how two years ago when production on The Danish Girl was about to begin, how difficult it was for her to find material on the lives of Danish painters Lili Elbe and Gerda Wegener on whose lives the film is loosely based.

‘I feel really happy and grateful when I was invited to try and shed light and bring life to a story which I think all of us thought was very moving but also very important to tell about two very pioneering women who went on a big journey together.

She also thanked ‘everyone from the transgender community and their loved ones and partners who were my greatest support in trying to make this film happen.’

Eddie Redmayne who plays Lili Elbe in the film, lost the best actor award to Leonardo DiCaprio with whom he will compete against at the Oscars.

Tambor, winner of the Emmy last fall for his portrayal of transgender woman Maura Pfefferman on Transparent, shared with the audience how his dad had raised he and his two brothers to ‘be useful.’

‘Thank you to the transgender community for letting me be useful. Change the world – it needs it.’
