Creative Arts Emmys Recap: Kathy Griffin back on D-List after losing to, of all people, Ryan Seacrest!

I’ve been so excited about the winners of last night’s Creative Arts Emmys – Neil Patrick Harris, Betty White and Ann-Margaret – that I have already done three posts and forgot to lament  on the fact that Greg In Hollywood was snubbed by the Emmys this year!

The media credential shut-out made me feel very D-List so I have that in common with poor Kathy Griffin who lost in the Outstanding Reality Series category to, of all people, her frequent joke target Ryan Seacrest, producer of Jamie Oliver’s Food Revolution.

Kathy, who has been nominated five times in the category and won twice, really has put the Creative Arts Emmys (an event she has famously nicknamed the Schmemmys) on the map with her outrageous speeches (“Suck it Jesus! This award is my God now!”).

She hosted last year’s proceedings but this year was content to tweet from her seat inside the Nokia Theatre: I lost. But wait, I didn’t just LOSE, I lost to Ryan fucking Seacrest. Ok, Ann Margaret just won best guest actress. Redheads rule!

Then came this: Ok. It’s just now really sinking in. I lost to Ryan Seacrest. Now do u believe me??? Plus if I wouldve won…FREE HAND JOBS.

And this: Call the paramedics. I’m putting myself on a 5150 psych hold (a la Britney) 72 hours in a padded cell, far, far away from @Ryanseacrest

Finally this: Ok, I admit, we’re not taking it very well…remember, it’s an honor 2 b nominated http://tweetphoto.com/40580441 and this: Tonight was the best night ever. Yeah congrats to me!!! http://tweetphoto.com/40629600

The Creative Arts Emmys show hands out more than 70 of the close to 100 Emmy Awards voted by the Academy of Television Arts & Sciences. Awards given out at the show include honors for casting, art direction, choreography, cinematography, costumes, hairstyling, makeup, editing, lighting, music, sound, visual effects, stunts and technical direction.

Some awards for writing and directing are also handed out, as are the Guest Actor and Guest Actress categories.

The top network winner was HBO with 17 trophies, followed by ABC with 15 and Fox with nine. CBS, NBC and PBS each claimed seven. “The Pacific,” HBO’s World War II miniseries, captured a leading seven creative arts awards.

2 Remarks

  1. To whom do we contact to proclaim our displeasure that Greg does not qualify for press credentials?

  2. I am so mad about Ryan Seacrest. That Jamie Oliver show aired, what, two or three times?? And wasn’t one of those a repeat of the pilot? Tell ’em to “Suck It Emmy”, Kathy!
On another note, how did the amazing docu-series “America, The Story of Us” do? Anyone know?
