Television icon Carol Burnett will be introduced to an entire new generation of television viewers as the mother of Sue Slyvester (Jane Lynch) on Glee.

Many viewers of the Fox hit may not be familiar with Miss Burnett’s classic TV variety show that ran for 11 seasons on CBS in the late 60s and through much of the 70s and on which she played such classic characters as Eunice, Mrs. Wiggens and, of course, Scarlett Ohara in the spoof of Gone With the Wind.

There is already a bit of a bond between Burnett and Jane Lynch who appeared together a few years back in the feature film Post Grad (pictured below). It’s an okay movie but neither were featured in their best comedic light.

But the two actresses connected and Burnett called Lynch when she was nominated for two Emmys earlier this summer. Lynch told us at Outfest last month that she took the call even though she was about to go on stage to appear with Jay Leno on The Tonight Show.

At the unveiling of her Madame Tussaud’s wax figure in Hollywood this week, Jane told USA Today: “I’m thrilled! I love her. It would just be awesome if we did a song together!”

Lynch said she has been a fan since the days of The Carol Burnett Show.

“She’s probably my first influence,” she explained. “I watched her show every Saturday night as a kid. My brother and I would act out some of the scenes. This is before VCRs, that’s how old I am, We would actually tape record on an old tape recorder so we would listen to the skits. We just loved the show.

One Remark

  1. I love Carol Burnett so much, I can’t wait to see the show. The Scarlet O’Hara roll coming down the stairs of Tara is a true classic. All the skits on her show were so much fun. Tarzan yell. LOL.
