Clay Aiken’s run for Congress to be docu-series
Clay Aiken may have lost his bid to for a seat in the US House of Representatives but his effort has landed him back on TV.
Aiken, 35, lost the election decisively to Republican incumbent Renee Ellmers this week. The openly-gay Democrat had faced an uphill battle from the start in the heavily-Republican 2nd District of North Carolina.
Viewers will get a close-up view of Aiken’s journey from announcing his candidacy back in February to election day.
The four episode series that will air on Esquire Network, a cable channel owned by NBC Universal.
The series ‘is a raw and honest look at American politics through an incredibly unique and compelling candidate,’ Matt Hanna, Esquire’s head of programming, said in a statement.
The series is from producer Simon Chinn who is best known for the documentary films Man on Wire and Searching for Sugarman.
After his loss on Tuesday, Aiken told supporters: ‘The result did not go the way we wanted it to tonight, but we’ve walked down this path once – or twice – before. And when about 11 years ago, after American Idol we came up short in another vote, we found reason to be happy, we found opportunity to see a win.’
Aiken finished as runner-up during the second season of American Idol but his success as a recording artist, concert draw and Broadway performer has exceeded that of several actual winners of the competition.

It was always going to be an uphill battle in an off year election(which are pointless and should be done away with IMVHO)and in a somewhat gerrymandered district. I’m glad he took Elmer’s on, she’s a vicious tea bagger who should ‘t be in office.
If Clay is serious about his political future now is the time to get studying and become a better candidate in two years. The odds will be better in 2016.

This is my district. We tried but turnout was low. In this gerrymandered district it would take a near total turnout and some luck to get a dem elected, much less a gay dem. Sad state of affairs to be honest because Nurse Ellmers is an idiot. She has been an embarrassment to the area and the state. What bugs me is that so very, very many Republicans disliked her yet they voted for her anyway.
