Christopher Plummer wins Oscar for “Beginners”
Christopher Plummer became the oldest winner of an acting Oscar in the history of the Academy Awards on Sunday (26 February).
The 82-year-old received a standing ovation when his name was announced as the winner of the supporting actor award for his performance in Beginners.
‘You’re only two years older than me darling,’ Plummer said to his Oscar statue at the 84th annual Academy Awards. ‘Where have you been all my life?’
In the film, he portrayed a man who had been secretly gay all his life and comes out with abandon after the death of his wife – much to the surprise of his grown son played by Ewan McGregor.
‘I would happily share this award [with McGregor] if I had any decency – but I don’t,’ Plummer said.
