Chilean gymnast Tomás González comes out publicly: “I guess it’s not a topic anymore, but yes, I’m gay”
Chilean gymnast Tomás González, who participated in the 2012, 2016 and 2021 Summer Olympics, has come out publicly as a gay man.
“I guess it’s not a topic anymore, but yes, I’m gay,” he said in an interview with the Spanish website El Desconcierto. “If it’s about making it public, I prefer to do it in this book.”
Now 36, Gonzalez realized he was gay when he was in his mid-20s and details this journey in his autobiography which was released last month.
In an Instagram post in June, he wrote in part: “It’s been an amazing process and very healing in so many ways. I have decided to share my sporting and personal experiences, some that I have never shared on media, in order to inspire everyone who has the illusion to be better in both areas,”
